Renolution grants in Brussels: the 2026 guide

Renolution grants are no longer available for works invoiced since 2025. Here is what has changed, what is still possible and how to fund a renovation in Brussels.

The Renolution grant was for years the first port of call for Brussels residents renovating their home: insulation, windows, heating, ventilation, energy audits... a large share of energy works could be partly reimbursed by the Region. In 2026 the picture has changed completely: Renolution grants are no longer available for recent works, and renovations now have to be funded in other ways.

This guide sets out the facts: how the scheme worked, what has been suspended, what is still available in Brussels and how to plan a renovation without relying on a grant that currently does not exist. The information below reflects the situation as known in September 2026; always check the latest position on the official website, renolution.brussels (in French and Dutch only).

How did Renolution grants work?

Renolution grants, managed by Brussels Environment and Urban, brought the former energy grants and renovation grants together in a single scheme from 2022. The system rested on a few principles:

  • three income categories (I, II and III): the more modest the household's income, the higher the grant;
  • a list of eligible items grouped into several categories: studies and audits, structural works, insulation (roof, walls, floors), windows, heating, mechanical ventilation and so on;
  • works carried out by companies registered with the Crossroads Bank for Enterprises, with a compliant invoice;
  • an application submitted after the works, online via IRISbox, within 12 months of the date of the final invoice.

This "after the works" logic explains the current situation: what determines eligibility is the date of the final invoice.

Where do Renolution grants stand in 2026?

The official position is straightforward. On renolution.brussels, the Region states that there is, to date, no government decision on any new forms of financial support for renovation, and that the grants page now only concerns applications for invoices dated 2024, whose submission period has closed.

In practice:

Date of the final invoice Status
2024 or earlier Handled under the former rules, submission period closed
2025 No Renolution grant possible
2026 No Renolution grant possible

The scheme was first suspended for lack of budget, then never relaunched. Several political statements have mentioned future zero-interest loans to replace the grants, but as far as we know no text had been adopted at the time of writing. If a new scheme is launched, it will be announced on the official website.

The key takeaway: if an installer promises you a "Renolution grant" today for works still to be carried out, ask them on what basis. Do not build your budget on support that is no longer open.

What support is still available in Brussels?

The end of the grants does not mean there is nothing left. Several mechanisms are still active:

  • the ECORENO loan: offered by the Fonds du Logement (the Brussels housing fund), it has been available again since 1 January 2026, at rates of 2.5% or 3.5% depending on the applicable scale. It is aimed at Brussels owners, future owners and tenants, and primarily funds energy performance, safety and sanitation works: insulation, ventilation, heating, solar panels, heat pumps or solar water heaters. More information on the Brussels Environment website;
  • 6% VAT on renovation works in a private home more than 10 years old, and on the installation of a heat pump in any private home between 2026 and 2030. See our article on 6% VAT for renovation;
  • green certificates for solar panel installations, a Brussels-specific mechanism that supports the return on solar;
  • municipal grants: some Brussels municipalities (communes) offer their own support (facades, green roofs, energy savings...). Amounts and conditions vary, so check with your municipality's planning or environment department;
  • free advice from Homegrade, the Region's housing advice centre, for technical, energy and planning questions.
Support Type For which works?
ECORENO loan Reduced-rate loan Insulation, heating, ventilation, solar, heat pump...
6% VAT Tax reduction Renovation (home over 10 years old), heat pump

EPB obligations: a reason to renovate anyway

Even without grants, energy renovation remains high on the agenda in Brussels, because the regulations set a clear course. Under the Renolution strategy, by 2033 every home will have to reach at least the EPB target of 275, meaning it must not use more than 275 kWh per m² per year. In practice this concerns homes currently rated F or G on their EPB certificate (the Brussels energy performance certificate). In the longer term, around 2045, the target will tighten to 150 kWh/m² per year, which will also affect homes rated D or E.

The Region has also announced that the EPB certificate will become compulsory for all homes, including owner-occupied ones. The exact timetable and the details of the obligations are published on the renolution.brussels obligations page.

For owners, anticipating these deadlines means spreading the works, tackling the most effective items first and protecting the value of the property.

How to fund and organise your renovation in 2026

Without a regional grant, method matters even more. Here is a six-step approach:

  1. Take stock of the home: existing EPB certificate, energy bills, uncomfortable areas (cold rooms, condensation).
  2. Prioritise the works: as a rule, roof insulation and replacing the weakest windows come before the heating system.
  3. Ask for several comparable quotes: same item, same performance (U-value, insulation thickness, output), same ancillary services.
  4. Check the levers available: 6% VAT, the ECORENO loan, your municipality's grants, green certificates if you add solar.
  5. Plan the works in the right order, so you do not have to redo an item later.
  6. Keep every invoice and certificate: they will be useful for VAT, a future sale, EPB compliance and in case a new support scheme is launched.

This is where RhinoEnergy can help: an adviser calls you back within 24 working hours, reviews the support genuinely available for your project, then puts you in touch with up to 3 certified installers in your area. Frequently asked questions

Do Renolution grants still exist in 2026?

Not for recent works. According to the official website, no government decision has been taken on new forms of financial support, and only invoices dated 2024 still fell under the scheme, with a submission period that has now closed.

My invoice is dated 2025: can I still apply for a Renolution grant?

No. Final invoices dated 2025 or 2026 do not qualify for a Renolution grant. Keep your invoices anyway: they remain useful for VAT, the EPB certificate and any future scheme.

What has replaced Renolution grants?

There is no equivalent replacement in the form of a grant. The main levers are the reduced-rate ECORENO loan, 6% VAT, green certificates for solar panels and some municipal grants.

How did the Renolution income categories work?

Households were placed in three categories (I, II and III) according to their taxable income. The category determined the grant amount: the lowest incomes received the highest amounts.

Should I wait for the grants to return before renovating?

There is no guarantee they will return, nor when. If your home is energy-hungry, waiting means continuing to pay high bills and getting closer to the 2033 EPB obligations. It is better to plan the priority works and use the levers that exist today.

How much could you save?

Two minutes for a first estimate, an adviser to check it, up to three quotes to decide.
